Nurse and Lawyer, Registered Family Mediator
I graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Calgary in 1980 and worked primarily in acute care in the Emergency Department. In 1997, I graduated from the University of Alberta with a law degree. After being admitted to the bar in 1998, I worked as Director of Health in Saskatchewan and central Alberta, before taking employment as a senior policy advisor in Strategic Directions with Alberta Health and Wellness, doing federal-provincial work, cross-ministerial, as well as being appointed by the Minister of Health as the Minister’s representative on a provincial MLA Task Force overseeing seniors care. Since moving to Red Deer in 2006, I have worked primarily in the area of administrative law, with a special interest in municipal law, expropriation, surface and other property rights, assessment appeals, environmental impacts, privacy impacts, and oil and gas leases. My experience as a senior bureaucrat with Government has provided valuable insight into understanding how to effectively advocate on my clients behalf with access to the legal process as may be required. I have advanced training in negotiation, mediation and am a certified registered family mediator in the province of Alberta.
Other interests: I am actively involved with the Red Deer Chamber Board of Directors, as first vice-president and on policy committees. I enjoy the opportunity to liaison and advocate for businesses in central Alberta.
